Melissa's Priorities

Melissa Chaudhry is ready to bring bold, people-first leadership. 

Her priorities reflect the needs and values of the people, with a focus on equity, sustainability, and opportunity for all.

Washington needs progressive taxation, as well as more coordinated and streamlined service delivery in nonprofits and government agencies to improve outcomes and reduce cost. Melissa is a proven consensus-maker with the courage to take on entrenched interests for the people's well-being.

Housing is a human right. Melissa is committed to expanding affordable housing, preventing displacement, investing in public housing, streamlining permitting, and supporting permanently affordable options - all to ensure that every family has a safe, stable place to call home.

Melissa will fight for fair wages, paid family leave, childcare and early learning, support for special needs families, and other protections that allow working families to thrive. She’s also a champion for union rights and understands the importance of empowering workers.

Sea-Tac Airport’s operations have substantial impacts on nearby communities. Melissa will work with all stakeholders to optimize the proposed airport expansion for economic benefit to local communities, while ensuring harm mitigation and proven-successful investments in public health to protect residents and ensure environmental justice.

Melissa is committed to supporting small businesses with better access to capital, resources, and fair regulations. She will prioritize vocational education, entrepreneurship support, and workforce development programs that create pathways to good-paying jobs and build a stronger local economy.

Every child deserves access to quality education, regardless of zip code or background. Melissa will advocate for fully funded schools (including paraeducators and special needs support), universal pre-K, subsidized childcare, and equitable access to higher education and job training programs.

Melissa understands the urgent need to address climate change and strengthen our local economy. She will use her extensive background in climate resilience work to champion initiatives that create green jobs, invest in sustainable infrastructure, and prepare our communities for future challenges.

Melissa is committed to expanding voter participation, protecting civil rights, and standing up to authoritarian threats. She will ensure that every voice is heard and valued. This year, she's already been instrumental in bringing thousands of new voters into the political process from marginalized communities, and she's just getting started.

As someone from a BIPOC household with lived experience of decades of systemic discrimination, Melissa knows intimately the importance of addressing inequities in healthcare, immigration, the justice system, and access to economic opportunities, and she'll always fight for the underdog and the dispossessed.
